How Total Access PATH Payment (TAPP) Works

Total Access PATH Payment, or TAPP, is the quickest and easiest way to pay for your PATH ride. Just like other contactless payments, all you need is a credit card or debit card with the contactless symbol, a smartphone, or a wearable with a digital wallet. Then, just tap on the reader, wait for “GO” and then head to your train.

Learn more about the different contactless payment methods below.

Contactless cards are the latest generation of credit and debit cards. If you see the contactless symbol  on your card, you can use it at TAPP turnstiles at all PATH stations! To pay for your PATH fare, tap your contactless card at the TAPP reader.

Banks and financial institutions have started switching to contactless cards to make payments faster and more secure for their customers. If you do not have a contactless card today, you can request one from your bank or financial institution.

Digital wallets use smart device applications, like Apple Pay®, Google Pay®, and Samsung Pay®, allowing you to make payments with smart phones, smart watches, or wearables. Like contactless cards, smart devices also use contactless technology. To make fare payments with your device at TAPP readers, you will need to add your debit, credit or reloadable prepaid card to your device's digital wallet.

If you have more than one payment card linked to your digital wallet, make sure to choose which card you want to use before paying your fare at a TAPP reader. Otherwise, the reader will use the default card linked to your digital wallet.

You may need to unlock your smart device to use your digital wallet. Refer to the user guides and settings for your smart device and mobile wallet to learn more.

When you add your payment card to your digital wallet, it will create a device account number. The device account number is different for each smart device that you use. The last four digits of each device account number will appear in your TAPP account when you use your device at TAPP readers.
